Better Than HAWAIIAN SWEET (Rolls) Hamburger Buns (Bread Machine EASY!) - 13 Bread Machine EASY Ideas

Pin It Now!

I served these up at a recent backyard BBQ.  Friends were invited for simple Burgers and Dogs.  I had just canned some Pickle Relish and I was excited to serve something that would highlight my canning.

So I spent extra time, extra effort and yes, extra money to make home made burger buns (and hot dog buns).  They came out delicious, uniquely flavored a a perfect texture for burgers.  They were wonderful for the meal.

BUT...

I had a friend who is not a foodie.  She loves to be invited and is great fun, but she just does not share my hobby.  Serve my burgers and dogs with fresh made extras or stop at White Castle on the way and grab a bag of sliders... no difference.

Well, there is a difference.  I am reminded of a quote I first saw on the wall of Baskin Robbins Ice Cream shops 40 years ago...

"There is hardly anything in the world that someone cannot make a little worse and sell a little cheaper, and the people who consider price alone are that person's lawful prey."
Interesting side note on the quote, B-R attributes this to John Ruskin, a Victorian era art critique and philosopher.  But in fact, the exact quote is not from him (not known who actually said this).  He did say similar things, and it is easy to jump to the conclusion he did in fact say this... But he at the least never wrote the phrase down.

But I digress...

Regardless of who said it, if you have the time, the inclination, the desire... Go ahead and make your own Hawaiian Rolls.  They have a great unique flavor (Pineapple Juice).  A wonderful texture (Potato Flakes).  And they are BREAD MACHINE EASY.

THEY ARE WORTH THE EXTRA EFFORT!

 OK... Here's what I did...

Better Than
HAWAIIAN SWEET (Rolls)
Hamburger Buns
(Bread Machine EASY!)

Ingredients
  • 1 Cup Pineapple Juice (Room Temperature)
  • 1 Large Egg (Room Temperature)
  • 1/3 Cup Milk (Room Temperature)
  • 4 TBS Butter
  • 2 tsp Coconut Extract
  • 1 tsp Ground Ginger
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1/3 Cup Sugar
  • 1/2 Cup Mashed Potato Flakes
  • 3-1/2 Cups Flour
  • 1 packet (2-1/4 tsp) Yeast
  • For Garnish, Melted Butter for brushing the tops
Cooking Directions
  1. Everything needs to be room temperature in order for the yeast to work it's magic. You can rush the process in a microwave burst of 5-10 second intervals, but do not get the ingredients too hot and especially be careful with the egg. Best to set the ingredients out for a couple of hours before starting.
  2. Add the ingredients to the bread machine in the order listed.
  3. Run the bread machine on "Dough" setting.
  4. After the cycle has finished, leave the dough in the machine for an additional hour to rise.
  5. Grease a casserole dish (9X13). Slice the dough into 12 equal size portions. Roll into balls and form into the desired shape (Round and flat for Hamburgers, long and thin for Hot Dogs) and set them in the pan.
  6. Cover with a towel and allow the final rise for about an hour until the rolls have filled the bottom of the pan and are all touching.Bake rolls in pre-heated 350 degree oven for 20 minutes.
  7. Remove from the oven and brush the melted butter on the top.
  8. Let cool slightly and serve with burgers, dogs and of course... ENJOY!!!
