Bartender, Make Me a SHANDY- Beer and Lemonade Mixed Drink Grilling Time Drink

Pin It Now!

Did you happen to catch my post from just a couple days ago when I made a batch of authentic Fresh Lemonade?

Silky, almost creamy with it's sweet (from Mint Simple Syrup) yet lots of Pucker Power (from steeping the cut lemons and their outer zest).  Of course you can enjoy Lemonade made from the bottled lemons, but honestly... no real comparison.

The Shandy is an Australian import mixed drink.  Simple enough formula, usually 1:1... 1 Cup Beer, 1 Cup Lemonade.  Obviously feel free to adjust the ratio to your taste.

If you go to all the effort to make "real" fresh Lemonade, pick your beer with care.  Something with hints of citrus is the most logical.  I am lucky enough to live in the shadow of the bottling plant for Boulevard Beer of Kansas City.  Boulevard's best selling beer is their Unfiltered Wheat Beer and the PERFECT beer to make a Shandy from.  In fact, if you order a Boulevard Wheat at a bar you almost always have it served with a slice of lemon as a garnish.

OK... Here's what I did...

1 Cup Boulevard Wheat Beer
1 Cup Fresh Made Lemonade
1 or 2 Lemon Slices for Garnish

Mix well, serve cold and ENJOY!

If you are not able to find a Boulevard Wheat to make your Shandy, look for something light bodied (not necessarily a light beer), something with a sweet malt flavoring and low Hop bitterness.  I am partial to a Boulevard Wheat, but a Mexican Corona would pair with the lemonade as well.
