Pretzel Crust for a Sweet and Salty Pie! - 52 Cakes and Pies at Home

Pin It Now!

Salty and Sweet... The stuff of legends!!!

Melt a little butter and sugar and you get caramel... Pretty good, but top this with a specialty salt like Fleur de Sel and you have a gourmet treat.

It's the same theory when you add a salty component (like a pretzel crust) to a sweet pie (like a Banana Cream Pie) and you cross that plain caramel vrs Gourmet Salted Caramel threshold.

Not much of a trick really...
Something Salty (like ground up Pretzels, put them in a zip lock bag, use a rolling pin (or in this case I used a Mason Jar filled with Coco (couldn't find a rolling pin... long story))
added to something Sweet (like ground up Vanilla Wafers)
Break up any larger pieces
Mix in melted butter to help form a solid crust
Press everything into a crust form
Bake... It's called Blind Baking to bake a pie crust and then add a filling (Like a Banana Cream Pie)... Bake at 350 degrees for 12 minutes
Then fill, chill and serve.

And of course... Enjoy!!!

The recipe is a Cuppa, Cuppa, Cuppa three ingredients, all one cup each... Pretzels, Vanilla Wafers, Melted Butter... Crush, add butter, bake (350 for 12 minutes), cool, fill, cool and enjoy!

See...  Come back next post for an amazing Mile High Domed Banana Cream Pie recipe with a Salty Pretzel Crust!
