Chocolate Butterscotch Banana Blondie Brownie Cheesecake - 52 Church PotLuck Desserts

Hey LOOK... another use for those overripe brown speckled Bananas besides banana bread.  No need to toss them, make this WONDERFUL Cheesecake.

A little bit Blondie Brownie...
A little bit Cheesecake
A little bit Banana Bread
AND all on top of a SOFT moist fudgy chocolate Faux OREO Pie/Cake Crust!!!

That crust needs a little explanation.  in fact I did a separate post (just double click the blue letters (or the photo to the right) and you will see the explanation.  there is a trick to getting a cookie crust to work right and the secret is all explained there.

As to this cake... let's go ahead and call it a cheesecake, it is wonderful.  Super moist with the cheesecake batter combining with the mashed baked bananas surrounding butterscotch blondie dough.  Add that to the moist soft chocolate crust and you have an amazing dessert... just as good as it sounds!

Perfect to use up "bad" bananas and a show stopper when you take this to any big family gathering, Church social, neighborhood PotLuck or just to show off with family and friends!

OK... Here's what I did....

  • 1-1/4 Cup Flour
  • 1 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 Cup Packed Brown Sugar
  • 1/4 Cup Sugar
  • 1 Large Egg, Room Temperature
  • 1 Large Egg Yolk, also Room Temperature
  • 1-1/2 tsp Vanilla
  • 1/4 Cup Half and Half
  • For the Cheesecake Filling

  • 1/4 Cup Sugar
  • 3 TBS Butter, Yes, Room Temp
  • 3 TBS Flour
  • 1-1/2 TBS Cornstarch
  • 1 tsp Vanilla
  • 2 Mashed Overripe Bananas
  • 1 Large Springform (or 2 small) Pans Lined with Parchment Paper with pressed Faux Oreo Chocolate Pie Crust
Cooking Directions
  1. Prepare pan(s) with parchment paper and Chocolate Faux Oreos Pie/Cake Crust.
  2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  3. In a saucepan over medium heat, cook the butter until it turns golden brown, about 5-8 minutes; remove from heat, and let cool for 15-20 minutes.
  4. Meanwhile in a small mixing bowl, Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt together in a small bowl, set aside.
  5. In bowl of standing mixer fitted with paddle attachment, combine brown butter and both sugars; beat on low speed until combined, 1 minute. Add egg and egg yolk, beat on medium-high speed until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes. Reduce speed to medium-low and add half of the flour mixture, beat until combined. Beat in vanilla and milk, follow by the remaining flour mixture. Beat until combined. Set aside...
  6. Wipe bowl of stand mixer clean, add cream cheese, egg yolk, sugar, butter and vanilla to clean bowl. Beat on medium speed until combined. Add flour, cornstarch and mashed banana, continue to beat until mixture is smooth and fully combined, about 20 seconds.
  7. Put Blondie Batter in balls (about 1/2 inch) on top of the Faux Oreo Crust.
  8. Pour banana mixture on top of blondie batter and spread evenly. Dollops remaining blondie batter, about 1-inch apart. Gently swirl banana mixture into blondie batter with a knife.
  9. Bake until a cake tester inserted in the center comes out with a few crumbs but not wet, about 45 minutes to an hour. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely (2-3 hours) before turning out of pan onto a cutting board. Peel off parchment paper;
  10. Serve Chilled and ENJOY

This recipe has been added to my growing list of "52 Church PotLuck Dishes"!

A list of something NEW worthy of being shown off at a neighborhood BYODish (Bring Your Own Dish) Party, a Family special occasion dinner, Any Big Holiday Gathering or of course that glorious day when you bring a dish to share with your Church family...

Ages ago, literally almost a half century ago I was listening to our pastor talking about a PotLuck Dinner. It happened to be scheduled around a church work day when we were expected to weed, polish and do general cleaning and maintenance around the church (you know, back in the day when there were no no-wax floors and church pews smelled of Old English furniture polish). I am of course paraphrasing, but as I recall the pastor said,

"A potluck, like a church requires work. At a potluck everyone is expected to contribute.. At a church no one should come empty handed and no one should leave unfed".
I will confess that in my youth I brought more store bought plastic spoons and forks than I ever brought covered dishes and crock pots of fresh made love and caring delights. But now that I have become a hobbyist cook, I occasionally am reminded of those days and people from my youth. I reminded and I do wish that I could drop a dish of some new creation on those old tables at my fondly remembered Liberty Baptist Church.  Tables covered with newspapers and loaded with God's bounty prepared with love and caring... Enjoy
